How Golf Solitaire works
Thirty-five cards are dealt into seven columns of five, all face up, so nothing is hidden — every decision is one you can actually reason about. One card sits face up on the waste pile, and the rest form the stock.
You may take the exposed card at the foot of any column and move it to the waste whenever it is one rank above or below the current waste card. Suits are ignored entirely, which is what makes Golf quicker to read than Klondike. When nothing is playable, turn a card from the stock. Clear all seven columns to win; run the stock out with no move available and the deal is over.
How to win more Golf deals
Because every card is face up from the start, Golf rewards looking before you move. Two cards of the same rank sitting at the foot of different columns are interchangeable right now but not later, so spend the one from the longer column — the short columns will clear on their own, and a five-card column left untouched is what usually strands a deal.
Before you turn a card from the stock, check whether a run is available: each stock card you burn is one fewer chance later, and a chain of four or five plays off a single waste card is where most wins come from. When two runs are open, follow the one that opens a buried column rather than the one that scores fastest.
Round the corner
By default an Ace only joins a 2, and a King only joins a Queen. Turn on round the corner and the ranks wrap, so Ace and King count as neighbours too. It makes deals noticeably more winnable and is the variant many players prefer.
