Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to SnackPack Earth Science on Android, and to any future iOS release. Earth Science is designed as a child-directed, family-friendly learning app. It does not require an account, keeps learning progress on the device, and is built to be safe for younger players.
Information the app handles
- Learning progress and preferences: The app stores quiz progress and accuracy, completed activities, books read, achievements, streak history, and settings such as hints, explanations, haptics, colour scheme, reduced motion, larger text, and the dyslexia-friendly font. This information is saved locally on your device.
- Birth year: On first launch the app asks for a birth year so it can pitch content and safety features at the right level. This is a year only, not a full date of birth, it is stored locally on the device, and it is never transmitted to SnackPack Studios. It can be changed or cleared at any time from Settings.
- Explorer Journal entries: Anything a student writes in the Explorer Journal is stored locally on the device. Journal text is not uploaded anywhere.
- Bundled image content: The app includes reference images that ship with the app. Photo-credit buttons may open the original source page in a browser only after a parental gate.
- Premium unlock status: If you buy the optional premium unlock, the app stores whether your device has an active entitlement so paid features stay unlocked. See "In-app purchases" below.
- Device-level technical information: Platform providers (Google Play, Apple) may process technical data such as device type, operating system version, IP address, crash reports, or diagnostics when needed to operate their services.
- Support contact information: If you email SnackPack Studios for support, the email address and information you include in your message may be received and retained for support purposes.
Information the app does not collect
- No account required: Earth Science does not require you to create an account or sign in.
- No advertising: The app does not show third-party ads and does not use the device advertising identifier (AD_ID), which is explicitly blocked in the app's Android configuration.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs: The app does not use third-party analytics or cross-app tracking tools.
- No learning data collection: Earth Science does not send quiz results, journal entries, achievements, streaks, or preferences to SnackPack Studios servers. User-initiated legal, support, purchase, and photo-credit links may use the internet and are placed behind parental checks where they leave the child-facing experience.
- No microphone access: Read-aloud narration uses the device's built-in text-to-speech for output only. The app does not request or use the microphone.
- No location, contacts, or photos: The app does not request access to your location, contacts, photo library, or similar personal data. Images shown in the app are bundled app content, not photos from your device.
- No social features: There are no user accounts, no chat, no comments, no leaderboards, and no user-to-user contact of any kind.
Local storage
Earth Science is local-first and relies on on-device storage for learning progress, journal entries, achievements, streaks, preferences, birth year, and unlock status, using the device's standard app storage and, for sensitive values, the platform's secure storage. This information generally remains on your device until you reset it in the app, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app. The Android app opts out of cloud backup for its application data; direct device-to-device transfer may still be provided by Android or the device manufacturer and is controlled by the platform. The app does not sync learning data to SnackPack Studios servers.
Read-aloud narration
Story books and selected screens offer optional read-aloud narration. This uses the text-to-speech engine built into your device or provided by your platform. Depending on the device and its own settings, that platform engine may process the text being spoken in order to generate audio. SnackPack Studios does not receive, store, or transmit this text, and narration is entirely optional.
Printing, sharing and exports
The app can generate a printable progress report and can create share cards for achievements. These are produced on the device and handed to the system print or share sheet, which you control. Anything you choose to save, print, message, or post is then controlled by you and by whichever service you sent it to. SnackPack Studios does not receive a copy.
Parental gate
Earth Science places a parental gate in front of anything that leaves the child-facing experience: outbound links, support and legal pages, photo-credit sources, and purchase or restore actions. The gate re-locks on each visit, so it is not intended to be passed by young children. It does not collect personal information and does not transmit anything off the device.
In-app purchases
Earth Science offers an optional premium unlock. Purchases are processed by the platform's billing system, which is Google Play Billing on Android and the App Store on iOS. Purchase and restore options are placed behind a parental gate so they are not triggered by children. SnackPack Studios does not receive or store your payment card details. To deliver and restore purchases, the app uses RevenueCat, a purchase-management service that validates store receipts and manages entitlements. RevenueCat may process a randomly generated app user identifier, a device identifier used for fraud prevention and to restore purchases to the correct device, together with purchase and receipt information for this purpose. See RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy and the store's own terms for how payment information is handled.
How information is used
- To operate the app: including saving learning progress, journal entries, achievements, streaks, and preferences.
- To pitch content appropriately: using the locally stored birth year to select suitable content and safety defaults.
- To deliver paid features: including unlocking and restoring premium content you have purchased.
- To maintain and improve the app: including fixing bugs and diagnosing crashes.
- To respond to support requests: if you contact SnackPack Studios directly.
Children's privacy
Earth Science is designed as a child-directed app for students and is built to align with Google Play's Families policy and Apple's guidelines for kids' apps. It does not require an account, does not show ads, does not use the advertising identifier, and does not use analytics or cross-app tracking SDKs. Learning data stays on the device. Purchase, legal, support, and outbound photo-credit options are placed behind a parental gate where they leave the child-facing experience. SnackPack Studios does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a support email, contact us and we will delete it.
Sharing and disclosure
SnackPack Studios does not sell personal information. Information may be shared only when reasonably necessary to operate the app, to use standard platform services such as app distribution and crash handling, to comply with legal obligations, or to respond to lawful requests.
Retention and security
Reasonable administrative and technical measures are used to help protect information handled by the app, including the use of secure on-device storage for sensitive local values. Information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the app and support, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce agreements. Support emails may be retained for follow-up and recordkeeping.
Your choices
- App data: You can remove all locally stored data by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app. Settings also offers per-area resets.
- Birth year: You can change or clear the stored birth year at any time from Settings.
- Read-aloud: Narration is optional and can be left switched off.
- Purchases: You can manage purchases through your Google Play or App Store account settings.
- Support requests: You can choose whether to contact SnackPack Studios by email.
Requesting data deletion
Earth Science relies on local, on-device storage for learning progress, journal entries, achievements, preferences, and birth year, so uninstalling the app removes that information from your device. For any information generated off-device, email privacy@snackpackuniverse.com from the account or with the device details used with Earth Science and request deletion. Full step-by-step instructions are on the Earth Science data deletion page.
What this covers: if you purchased the premium unlock, the RevenueCat purchase and entitlement record associated with your device (product identifiers, transaction information, the app user identifier generated for purchase handling, and the device identifier used for fraud prevention and purchase restoration) will be deleted from RevenueCat within 30 days of a verified request. Support emails may be retained separately for recordkeeping as described above.
Platform-specific privacy requirements
Earth Science is distributed on Google Play and may also be submitted to the Apple App Store. For Apple review, the iOS build includes an app-level privacy manifest for the preferences storage required-reason API used by shipped dependencies. The Google Play Data safety form and Families policy disclosures are kept consistent with the practices described here. If platform-specific privacy practices change in future releases, this page and the related store disclosures will be updated accordingly.
Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The version published on this page is the current version, and the effective date will be updated when material changes are made.
